Services:
WRS aims to empower and assist women and children toward safety, self-sufficiency and wellbeing by providing information/referral, case coordinated and/or case management including:

• Information and referral support around domestic, family and sexual violence
• Assessment of situation including risks and needs
• Safety planning
• Referral to specialist services to enhance safety (e.g. women’s refuge, legal)
• Victims Services and LVP application support
• Home Safety Audit’s and Security Upgrades
• Advocacy and liaison with other services and organisations (eg police)
• Court support
• Interim counselling and psychoeducation
• Support groups focused on education and healing
• Community education activities

WRS is funded by the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) through the Integrated Domestic and Family Violence Services Program (IDFVS), Staying Home, Leaving Violence (SHLV) and the NPA Frontline Worker funding.

In partnership with Byron Youth Service, WRS also offers specialist support to young people (10-17 years) who have been subjected to domestic, family, sexual or other violence. The One Eighty Project is a targeted program aiming to provide information, referral directly to impacted young people in the Byron Shire. Information, referrals, and support can be accessed through either Byron Youth Service or the Women’s Resource Service.

WRS also steers the local DV Committee – Byron Shire Committee Against Domestic Violence – which has members from NSW Police, NSW Health, Drug and Alcohol services, family support services, Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS) and other local NGOs. The committee is a multi-agency collaboration that aims to improve outcomes for those subjected to domestic violence through increased and more proactive services to victims and children, intentional and co-ordinated criminal justice responses and integrated service systems, and through taking preventative action by way of community education.
