November 22-28 is National Asbestos Awareness Week, and the Australian Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency has released a campaign pack for NSW councils to help prepare and promote awareness events.

In homes built before 1990 asbestos can still be found anywhere, affecting one in three homes nationwide. This year’s campaign challenges complacency by reminding home renovators and tradespeople that the danger of asbestos is far from over.

Councils across NSW have done tremendous work over many years by removing the risk of asbestos in our communities but, with about 4000 people continuing to die annually from asbestos-related diseases, we cannot afford to rest on our laurels.
