DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Community Meal in the Hub 12.30pm to 1.30pm \nOur “More Than a Meal” program has served thousands of meals to community members  and helped many with social isolation and improved overall well being. \nThe Courtyard opens for More Than a Meal on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday between 12.30pm – 1.30pm. \nCost : All community meals are free of charge\, however as this service is unfunded\, a donation toward costs is always greatly appreciated. DESCRIPTION:The Gulganii Community Pantry is now open on Monday\nGulganii Community Pantry – Choice Dignity – Empowerment\nGulganii Community Pantry is a service for people who are struggling to\nmake ends meet. It helps them to buy staple food and essential items for little or no cost. \nPackaged grocery items like stocks\, oats\, flour\, rice\, sugar and pasta\, as well as sauces to go with them. Vegemite and Macaroni cheese for the kids and tinned vegetables and fruit. Coffee tea and milk. All available at reduced prices. \nToiletries are also available\, delicious body washes and soaps. Sanitary products are free. \nItems available in the community pantry will change from week and a minimum spend of $5.00 will give you access to free fruit and vegetables when available from Food Recovery. Bread is free when available. \nFor an annual membership fee of $2.00\, you can access this service. Health Care Cards and Centrelink numbers are not required and it is open to everyone. \nOpen Monday Wednesday and Friday 10am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3pm (Closed for lunch 12:30pm-1:30pm)

Life gets busy and we want women to make their health a priority.’ \nThe BreastScreen NSW van will be located at Dalley Street\, near the Fire Station & Cenotaph. \nAn appointment with BreastScreen NSW is free\, takes less than 20 minutes and no doctor’s referral is needed. \n• All women are invited by BreastScreen NSW to screen every two years from age 50.\n• Any woman with a family history of breast cancer should discuss their specific needs with their GP.\n• Anyone with breast symptoms should contact their GP or health worker without delay. \nThe mobile screening van is equipped with a lift system to support women with health conditions or disability to have their mammogram. But it’s too expensive for many people and legal aid and community legal centres are very limited or far away. \nOur community has many problems that could use legal advice but people often don’t get the help they need.  Mainly because of the cost.  It might be a contract you need or a claim against your employer.  Maybe you want to contest a driving charge or there’s a will you keep forgetting to do.  Added up\, it’s a bit like having untreated illness across the community.  We should fix that. \nWhat is Barefoot Law?\nBarefoot Law aims to offer practical low-cost advice to individuals and families\, community organisations and small businesses.  We see ourselves as plying a trade – we’re making new shelves for your kitchen\, putting in a bathroom or building a studio ‘out the back’.  Only this is a law firm.  A very small one! \nBarefoot Law is designed to help you solve a problem or make a decision.  We will be open one day a week\, like a clinic.  We will aim to empower you – whether that means creating a document or helping you navigate a bureaucracy.  If you need a specialist we will find you one.  We have a good network of local and city experts to call on.   \nWe will also run classes and workshops – for community groups or artists or wills and aged care.  Over time we hope to empower the community by increasing knowledge of the law and building local networks.  \nHow much is Barefoot Law?\nFees will be set at a reasonable level\, like what you pay a tradesman: $50 per half hour; $100 per full hour.  Minimum fee $20.  Coming to a class or workshop will be $20 per head (hour and a half).  Fees are set well below rates charged by most solicitors and are pretty close to what people pay for massages or physio. \nHours\nWednesdays only from 9am – 4pm. Community groups also ask more technical questions about rules and contracts.\nSo I started thinking there’s an unmet demand for low cost practical advice.  \nLawyers usually charge a lot more than tradespeople and that’s never made sense to me.  Legal advice is a service\, a useful functional thing.  Like making a table or fixing a car.  It’s generally over-priced but it also has a value.  We’re in this weird space where people pay way too much or expect advice for free. \nIn the Northern Rivers\, low-cost legal services are also limited and underfunded.  Mullumbimby locals have to travel to Lismore or Murwillumbah for legal aid or community legal center support.  So there is a gap to be filled\, no risk. \nSince I moved to Mullumbimby in 2013 I’ve kept working for my clients who are spread around Australia\, mainly mutual banks and credit unions; but I also do work in the energy sector and am a company secretary now at Enova Energy.   \nRecently I ran a course at Byron Community College for social enterprises – local non-profits and community projects.  It was a great example of empowering locals with the knowledge to help them run their activities and make good decisions.  Barefoot Law grew out of that course.  \nOf course\, most law firms tend to work for people with resources – and their fees reflect the commercial value of what they are working on e.g. a property transaction\, sale of a business or debt recovery.  Barefoot Law is something else – it’s offering legal services to people who currently can’t or don’t access them. \nEvery community has many issues that a lawyer can help with – the challenge is to make the service cheap enough for the client with enough payment for the lawyer.  Efficiency is also important – because time is money.  So Barefoot Law will work best if clients tell us about what they want before they come in.   \nI’ve been talking to Julie Williams at Mullum Neighbourhood Centre for some time.  The plan is to start small and build slowly.  Over time we hope to create a useful and lasting community resource.  I would also love other solicitors to come and work at or with Barefoot Law. \nI will see private clients from 9 to 4 on Tuesdays.  You can make an appointment or just turn up and wait. It helps them to buy staple food and essential items for little or no cost. \nPackaged grocery items like stocks\, oats\, flour\, rice\, sugar and pasta\, as well as sauces to go with them. Vegemite and Macaroni cheese for the kids and tinned vegetables and fruit. Coffee tea and milk. All available at reduced prices. \nToiletries are also available\, delicious body washes and soaps. Sanitary products are free. \nItems available in the community pantry will change from week and a minimum spend of $5.00 will give you access to free fruit and vegetables when available from Food Recovery. DESCRIPTION:NewAccess is a Beyondblue developed program\, delivered by Bolton Clarke and North Coast Primary Health Network\, that supports people experiencing day to day life stresses\, worries and mild to moderate levels of anxiety and depression. The primary aim of NewAccess is to help people to learn effective self-management strategies to better manage symptoms of low mood and anxiety and thus improve their quality of life. \nWhat it entails:\nSix coaching sessions with a NewAccess Coach\, who will work with participants to develop a program tailored to their individual needs\nCoaches are specifically trained and experienced using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) method\nAvailability to see a NewAccess Coach within 1-2 weeks\nService is confidential and convenient – consultations can be face-to-face\, by phone\, or Skype® service\nCoaches have a high success rate* with their clients 69.29% \nWho is eligible? Anyone over 12 years of age living on the North Coast who is experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and depression\, who is not already accessing another Mental Health Professional (to avoid confusing treatments).
